This website is dedicated to my personal experiences and thoughts on Materials Science. It is meant to be a monument to my progress through the field and help me think through complex concepts.
What is Materials Science? It is the study of materials and their properties. That means us Materials Scientists study how all sorts of scales of chemistry and physics affect the properties of materials. Whether the quantum properties induce superconductivity or the molecular interactions increase durability, Materials Science seeks to explain and optimize it.
About Me
My name is Brandon Sweet, and I’m a rising senior at the Bronx High School of Science. I first became interested in Materials Science when I saw a video online of someone synthesizing rubies in their microwave. I was amazed by how two dull powders and some plasma could create a gem so brilliant. I performed this experiment and created two tiny rubies, cementing my love for Materials Science.
