A commitment to explaining materials science

What We Do

Materials science concepts can be difficult to grasp with all the jargon and prerequisite knowledge, so I try to explain it in simpler terms.

I’ll explore concepts in areas like nanotech, structural analysis, lab tech, synthesis methods, computational aspects of materials science, new technology, and anything else I find interesting.

What is materials science? Materials science is the study of materials and their properties. That means we study how chemical bonds and structures affect that molecule’s properties, how molecules work together in order to create a larger object, and how anything from charge to molecular structures behave across space.

About Me

Hi, my name is Brandon Sweet, and I’m currently a rising junior at the Bronx High School of Science. I was first interested in materials science when I saw a video online of someone creating rubies in their microwave (although I couldn’t put a name to the science). I was amazed by how two dull powders and some plasma could create something so brilliant. I tried this experiment and created two tiny rubies, cementing my love for materials science.
